I agree with your list. All movies were awesome.
I will add following history movies:
Henry V
Rob Roy
Ivanhoe
13th Warrior
Mongol: The Rise of Gengis Khan, 2007.
I liked Shogun with Richard Chamberlain, a movie from medieval Japan.
Kingdom of Heaven was a good movie, not too historicaly reliable but good. Arn Templar was even better but it was not a Holywood movie so its popularity is not so great. If you like crusaders, medieval battles and history of Scandinavia and Palestine – definitely watch Arn.
Karl, Norway
Kingdom of Heaven, Braveheart, Gladiator, Robin Hood 2010.
Lord of the Rings, all movies.
LotR is movie from Middle-Earth not from middleage
lol…lord of the rings….middle earth not medieval ages
I love French comedy Les Visiteurs with Jean Reno, highly recommended.
First Knight, Princess Bride.
The First Knight? – 5-6th century and knights in chromed full plate armor with crossbows = total crap.
Princess Bride? This was not a medieval movie
yoour full of it TKN FIRST KNIGHT IS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS IVE EVER SEEN
I have watched a lot of Medieval Movies. There are a few on the list that I haven’t heard of so I will have to check them out. I would add one more to the list King Aurthur. I love the battle with the Saxons at the end of the Movie.
I agree with you. Battle was great. This Arthur movie was probably the most true look at those events. There is also upcoming movie Centurion from Roman Britain with Olga Kurylenko.
Robin Hood 1938.
I just saw Centurion movie with great Romans vs. Celts fights.
GLADIATOR, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN.
The name of the Rose.
Tudors-cast is wonderful.
Umm… Top 10 movies list only has 9 movies on it??
I like 1612 movie.
UHG! SIXTH SENSE? DUH!
Sixth sense was awesome but….. do you really think it was a medieval movie??????
How about “Lord Of The Rings”? A combination of Medieval and Fantasy and one of the most successful movies ever.
Where is Flesh & Blood on this list? Hauer was very good in that film. I figured that it would be mentioned. Also there is The War Lord with Charleton Heston not on here. Those count tops for me.
The Last Samurai
THE 13th WARRIOR
I love the movie but it makes vikings look to much of brutes we nordics also love literature and the spoken word
Please add this one, it’s epic:
Musa The Warrior
Agreed, Arn was a great film:
Martin Luther, Pope Joane, must see
Cheers
What an amazing movie…AND a great ending to one of the best franchises ever made!
Troy. Achilles is awesome
love medieval movies thx for the list
Great list and an excellent site as well. I really enjoyed two recent medieval movies: Robin Hood and Ironclad.
As much as I agree with the new version of Lion in Winter with Patrick Stewart, I must say that the original with Peter O’Toole and Katherine Hepburn is far superior. I would have placed that one on the list instead of the later version if I had to make a choice. Also, its sort-of prequel Beckett was incredible as well.
the best is outlander by far
