Nice article. I always prefer full plate mail:)
all armor is a trade off, weight and flexibility for protection
plate armor was great until they got you on your back and you were helpless as a turtle against someone with a stiletto type weapon that could get at you through the joints or visor
Nice article. If I may make a few comments though.
The mention that ring mail may appear in iconography is misleading, it is now commonly believed that the images were just the artists stylised way of drawing mail (chainmail).
The term plate mail is derived from when plate was first starting to be worn (circa 14th century) and the plate pieces were actually strapped and laced onto the mail shirt underneath. The term originally started as plate and mail but evolved into the common term in modern times.
The belief that you were as helpless as a turtle if knocked over in plate is a Hollywood myth. Yes, you do lose some flexibility, but well made plate (made for the person wearing it) still allows for the wearer it to easily get up off the ground, without aid.
I have extensive practical knowledge of all forms of historical armour and weapons, having used most forms for almost two decades. I am also a role player of more than two decades experience.
nigga
couldnt agree with you more, haha
Many many quality potnis there.
Great article. This armor are worn during the medieval times. Although these are still presently collected, the body armor plates worn today are now much lighter. I hope you can write also about the newest armor plates worn by our fighters of today.
