Polish cavalry
The Polish cavalry (Polish jazda, kawaleria, konnica) can trace its origins back to the days of Medieval mounted knights. Poland had always been a country of flatlands and fields and mounted forces operate well in this environment. The knights and heavy horse cavalry gradually evolved into many different types of specialised mounted military formations, some of which heavily influenced western warfare and military science.
The most famous Polish cavalry units were:
Polish Hussars (heavy cavalry)
Polish Uhlans (light cavalry)
Famous battles of Polish cavalry:
1410 Battle of Grunwald (Tannenberk) - huge defeat of Teutonic order
1683 Battle of Vienna - defeat of Ottoman empire
1920 Battle of Komarow (latest true cavalry battle) huge disaster for Soviets. Total annihilation of the entire 1st Soviet cavalry army. 2000 Polish riders smashed 17 000 soviets.
