Prussian history really begins with Frederique the Great, whose first move was to build the prussian army into a well equipped and disciplined force.
This sword was designed during this time period, with a particularity it has a two edged blade but it featured one edge in later years.
The brass hilt and the engreaved blade show the King's symbol : FR, for Fredericus Rex, with the prussian crowned eagle.
The sword was used during 18th century and during all the Napoleonic wars.
The hilt is of brass with a wire-wrapped leather grip. The guard is heavily embellished with Imperial symbols.
The wood-core scabbard is covered with black leather and a brass casing.
The Prussian cuirassiers were lighter than the French heavies. They had not worn the heavy breastplates since 1790.
