Embossed with the insignia and devices of the British artillery and the Crown, this 19th Century Royal Artillery Officer’s Sword is based on the 1822 Light Cavalry Sword. Its blade though is in the Wilkinson style, which was adopted in 1845 over the older Pipe-Back design. Officer blades of this style for the various military branches were used throughout most of the 19th century and into WWI in all corners of the considerable British Empire, then at its apex.
This replica of a 19th Century Royal Artillery Officer’s Sword has an embossed, unsharpened blade of high carbon steel. The hilt is of steel and the grip is wrapped with brown leather and inlaid with bands of twisted wire. The wooden scabbard wrapped with brown leather is in the "Sam Browne" style, which became standard issue in the Boer War and into WWI. It has a steel throat piece, and an integrated, leather strap with a hole for a hanging pin.
